Little Rock, AR – Fifteen Arkansas Trucking Association member companies, including five companies headquartered in Arkansas, are among the Top 100 freight carriers in North America according to the annual ranking compiled by Transport Topics, an industry trade newspaper. The list ranks companies by their 2014 gross revenue. Companies on the 2014 list represent a combined revenue of $209.5 billion in 2014, an increase of 7.4% from $195.1 billion in 2013.

J. B. Hunt Transport Services in Lowell is the largest carrier in Arkansas and 3rd largest in the U.S., reporting $6.2 billion in revenues in 2014. The truckload, intermodal and logistics carrier employed 20,158 people at year-end.

ArcBest Corporation, holding company of ABF Freight in Fort Smith, is the 2nd largest trucking company in Arkansas, and the 12th largest in the U. S., up one spot from last year’s ranking. The national and regional less-than-truckload carrier employed 13,238 people in 2014, and generated more than $2.6 billion in revenue. The company also offers expedited deliveries, warehousing and distribution capabilities.

USA Truck, headquartered in Van Buren, is the 3rd largest carrier in Arkansas. Ranking 50th in the U. S., the publicly owned truckload carrier reported over $602 million in revenue last year.

UPS is the nation’s largest carrier, with consolidated revenues of $58.2 billion. FedEx Corporation, of which FedEx Freight in Harrison is one of the company’s ten operating units, is the nation’s second largest trucking firm on revenue of $47.1 billion. The competition for the top ranking is expected to intensify with FedEx’s recent acquisitions.

“These companies are leaders in an industry that is critical to our state’s economy,” said Shannon Newton, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association. “Ninety percent of our state’s communities depend exclusively on trucks to deliver essential goods. The Arkansas trucking industry provides jobs to over 85,000 Arkansans, one in every eleven working people,” Newton said.

In addition to the five companies headquartered in Arkansas, ATA members represent 10 other top spots on the list. These carriers have a significant presence in Arkansas and support the association in effort to protect the interests of the industry as a whole. ATA members making the list include UPS Inc.
