Auto-correct coming to Driving Tech

Predictive text, or autocorrect, is the typing technology on mobile devices that suggests words the typer may use based on the characters entered and used in the past. While predictive text speeds up the typing process, the tire company, Continental, is hoping to apply predictive driving to autonomous vehicle technologies to improve the driving experience.

Continental announced the technology, Dynamic eHorizon, at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show in Atlanta in October. Utilizing traffic and road conditions, GPS signals and topographic route data, eHorizon can adjust speed and driving style, increasing safety, saving fuel and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

In the future, other data sets such as live events, weather, accidents and construction activities can potentially be included. Smart transport experts hope that predictive technology will be used for tasks like warning a driver about peak periods or potential obstacles and then making route suggestions, lowering the speed and making other changes to create a better road experience for everyone.
