Safety Pays: ATA SIF Returning $1.1 Million To Member Companies

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — For 34 Arkansas Trucking Association member companies, the benefits of belonging are about to arrive in the form of a check.

The Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission has approved a $1.1 million dividend from the ATA Self Insurers’ Fund, returning surplus premiums to participating trucking companies. This year’s distribution brings total dividends since the fund’s inception in 1993 to more than $37 million.

That is money back in the hands of the businesses that earned it through a shared commitment to safer workplaces and responsible claims management.

ATA established the fund to help members take greater control of their workers’ compensation costs. Today, it covers more than 2,600 employees and pairs that coverage with exceptional loss control services and claims handling tailored to the trucking industry.

The value starts long before a dividend check arrives. Participating companies receive support to prevent workplace injuries, manage claims effectively and protect their employees. When claims and expenses are paid and surplus premiums remain, the fund can return those dollars to eligible members.

“Our members put safety to work every day, and this dividend puts those efforts back to work for their businesses,” said Vicki Jones Stephens, chair of the ATA SIF Board of Trustees. “Strong loss control services and attentive claims handling help our companies protect their people and manage costs. Returning surplus premiums is another way the fund delivers value to its members.”

“This is the power of association with a dollar sign attached,” said Shannon Newton, president of ATA. “Our members gain access to a workers’ compensation program built for their industry, backed by excellent service and designed to return value to participating companies. More than $37 million in dividends is a powerful demonstration of what we can accomplish together.”

The fund offers a compelling combination: industry expertise, proactive safety support, excellent claims service and the opportunity to share in the program’s financial success.
